Net Menders -- Three Workers by Richard Haines

Oil on water, 22 x 32

The West Coast Modernist artist Richard Haines was a major muralist for the New Deal during the Great Depression. Haines' work was marked by modernism, geometric abstraction and deconstruction. This painting evidences the artist's interest in the spiritual value of work.

It is part of the Labor Arts exhibit Scenes of American Labor with thirty nine paintings that evoke the individual and physical experience of work. The entire series is housed at the Sullivan Goss Gallery in Santa Barbara, CA.
